Fishermen are already gearing up for the warm weather to arrive, so they can head to the lake for some good ol fashion fishing. Those that get in tournaments take their fishing a bit more serious and a good reason why. So many top name sponsors follow these fishing tours each year and the winner can take home a nice prize. Many times a professional angler doesn’t even need to finish first to take home a nice week’s pay. They can just land in the top 10 and get paid more for fishing in a tournament; than they could from a typical 40 hour a week job.

To win your average fishing tournament, you just need to hook the big one! One big bass on the other end of your line can determine if you place in the top anglers of fishing or not. Usually the winner will catch the biggest fish in the whole tournament that might last 1 or more days. A weekend tournament that consists of two days is generally won by someone that lands two big bass in their boat. The first task for any fisherman in a tournament is to land the first one. As long as you reel in one bass, you at least force your competitors to catch a fish too. A big field for a fishing tournament makes it hard to win and you just want to work on catching that first fish. After you got a fish or two in the boat, you can then set out for the big one.

So where do you catch the big bass? Well that’s pretty easy to answer; the big bass is always in the water! You can’t catch’em if your hook is dry or in the boat, so you have to get it wet. There are no special tricks on where you fish at in the lake, but the way you fish will determine your success in these fishing tournaments. Fishermen often forget about technique and this is the most important thing. It’s not just about throwing a artificial lure in the water and reeling it in. You need a little technique on the way you reel and jerk your bait around. The fish want to see something dancing and just reeling it straight back in doesn’t always make it dance like it should. Every lure is different, but they all need a little something extra and this is something you can work on before the fishing tournaments do arrive. Your technique will win you more fishing tournaments than any lure or specific place to fish at in the lake. Please remember, it just takes 1 big one and your all set for a great weekend in the tournament!
