Making Sense Out of the World

The evolution of logo designing could be traced back to the Ancient Greece, when the rulers and their dynasties used to use cipher as a monogram in their coins. However the modern logo designing dates back to the pre-industrial society when people used to do direct trade with craftsmen, grocer and farmers etc.  At that time pottery, furniture, stonework etc. used to come with the stamp of the craftsmen, which was consider as a signature for trade. Afterwards, with industrial revolution, the direct trade between manufacturer and purchaser ended and things started being produced and packed in bulk quantity.  It was the time when the use of business logo came out as a significant thing to differentiate companies and their products among each other.

It was little about the evolution of logo designing. In this writing we have taken Nokia Corporation’s logo as a case study. Nokia is already well-known for its state-of-the-art mobile and network equipments technology, but most of us don’t know how the company and its logo evolved.

Nokia first logo 1966:

In 1865, Engineer Fredrik Idestam established a wood pulp mill on the banks of the TammerKoski rapids in the town of Tampere, in southern Finland. Later in 1868, he built second mill by the Nokianvirta River, which gave the Nokia its name. In 1871, Idestam and his friend Leo Mechelin, renamed and transformed the firm into a share company, thereby founding the Nokia Company.

The first logo of Nokia was created in 1966 showing the image of a fish. This image should be inspired by the salmon fish of Nokianvirta River.

1898: Finnish Rubber Works:

In 1898, Eduard Polón founded the Finnish Rubber Works, which later became Nokia’s rubber business. The new company tried producing many products like papers, bicycle, car tires, footwear, communication cables, electricity generation machineries, televisions, aluminum, capacitors, and lot more.

At that time Nokia adopted a triangular shape logo, in which the name of a company and the date of foundation were written in red color.

1967: The merger

In 1967, three companies, which were jointly owned since 1922 by Nokia, officially merged and created Nokia Corporation. The three companies were Nokia Ab, Finnish Cable Works, and Finnish Rubber Works.
After the merger, Nokia Corporation adopted the logo which was all black rounded shape emblem, in which “Nokia” was written in white.

At the start of its telecommunication equipment manufacturing, Nokia adopted the logo which was quite similar to the current one, but with the light blue color and the arrow like shape pointing upward. Arrow in the logo represents the Nokia’s progress and advancement in telecommunication industry.

There is no doubt that Nokia has become the no. 1 company in mobile communication. On one hand, its mobile phones and gadgets have been infiltrating globally in mobile markets, and on the other hand, Nokia offers corporate functions which include multimedia devices and applications, enterprise solutions and network services.
The current Nokia logo is a simple blue emblem with a slogan “connecting people”, which rightly portrays the company’s image as a telecommunication company, removing the barriers and distance of communication for people around the world.

It’s not the Green River Killer this time around the Seattle area, but the new show that comes on every Thursday from CBS. It’s called Harpers Island and the show is really getting good now. The first episode seen 2 murders and now we got 3 more dead in the 2nd episode of Harper’s Island. The Island is located off the coast in Washington and near the big city of Seattle. A killer is on the loose and we are trying to figure out who that killer might be.

The first shocking scene in week 2 was when the hunters came out of the woods to see a dead deer on their truck. The deer’s blood was used to write out the word “PSYCHO” on the windshield of the truck. Later we see the person than did this washing their hands from the deer’s blood. One of the hunter’s names is Shane and Shane took the deer’s head and put in the bath tub of the person he thought was involved.

We also got to see the priest get his head taken off by the killer. He got caught in a trap and was hanging upside down and the killer took one swipe with a large blade and the priest’s head fell from the body. The 3rd murder came at the end of the show and we saw the beautiful blonde girl fall in a big hole. Someone dumped gasoline on her while being trapped in the large hole and then threw fire in the hole to set her ablaze.

The murder that was in the middle was an interesting one. This girl had just made a pact with Abbey that she would be going to Los Angeles with her. Abbey plans to return to L.A. after the wedding is over and this girl was excited that she was going to go back with Abbey. The guy living with her is the same guy that put the dead deer on the hunter’s truck. He seems like the likely killer right now, but this is the obvious choice for everyone to pick. I think Abbey can’t be taken off the list and she was my original pick as the killer. She was in the woods where the hunters were and she did talk to the girl that was excited to go to Los Angeles with her, but moments later the girl was found hanging in her apartment. Abbey wasn’t around when the priest got his head taken off and she was sitting at the bar with 3 other people when this murder took place.

The bride’s name is Trish and her dad looks guilty about something. The guy he is talking to in the 2nd episode seems to have a little guilt going his way too. This guy may be trying to break up the wedding and we should learn more about his role in the 3rd episode of Harper’s Island.

I do like watching this new CBS show and it is getting pretty good. If you have missed the first 2 episodes; then there is still time to watch and get caught up on things. Every week a murder or murders will take place on this Seattle Island and he TV audience is trying to determine who will be killed next or who the killer might be. Two websites get advertised during the show and you will see these if you tune in. There is a HarpersIsland.com and a Harpersglobe.com that I think are the two websites. One of these is for viewers to pick who they think will get murdered in week 3 of the show. I think with Trish’s dad and the guy he was talking to coming to the spotlight right now; we may see one of these 2 men lose their life this Thursday. Harpers Island does come on every Thursday and it comes on at 10PM EST for those living on the U.S. East Coast. North Carolina Wins Miss America

The votes are in and counted and the winner is Miss North Carolina! The blond head beauty took center stage at the Miss American Pageant recently and beat out California and Arizona for the top prize. Kristen Dalton is the lucky winner and the one representing the state of North Carolina. All 50 states had a contestant in the beauty pageant and it was Kristen Dalton that beat out all the other states to be crowned the new Miss America.

There was some off stage debate in this year’s Miss America Pageant and most of it took place off stage. Apparently the contestant from California gave a reply to a question that received harshed views from the crowd. I don’t think she said anything wrong and everyone has the right to their own opinion. The person representing the state of California is only representing them in a beauty contest and her comments don’t reflect politics or the way other people from California feel. We must learn to let people have their own views and opinions and this is what makes this country great. We aren’t always going to agree with those that have a chance to share their opinions on a national stage. I think the contest should have not put the question up in the first place and it’s a question that most politicians stumble to find the right answers on. Miss California you did a great job answering the question and don’t let anyone make you feel any differently. I don’t think you owe an apology to anyone and only if you apologize for your comments will I have a negative view on you. I think you answered a tough question great and let the others shout and holler all they want for not understanding your situation.

All contestants did well but Kristen Dalton provided that little bit of extra needed to win. Kristen Dalton from North Carolina is your 2009 Miss America!

The beautiful land that goes through the middle of America is the heart of our country. I know around the Oklahoma area in the Midwest there are some good deals on real estate and property values in this area are sure to rise in the near future. I think investors would be wise to purchase tulsa real estate right now and hold on to it for a few years. Land values nationwide will be on the increase again real soon. The housing industry just needs to fix a few things and we will see home sales and values go up once again in this country. I can’t think of a better place to catch this uptrend than in the state of Oklahoma. This would also be a great state to start or raise a family in and the folks in the Midwest are very nice!

I have a few friends that want to travel down to Mexico. I would like to join them and visit another country. I think it would be cool to see what life is like in Mexico. I hear the U.S. dollar is worth more down there and going shopping would be fun to do. It would be like everything is on sale if you went to Mexico from the United States.

I wouldn’t want to do any crimes down there though. The Mexican jails have a notorious reputation of being cruel. I have never heard any direct stories about this, but we see this a lot in the Hollywood movies and it’s something most people believe in America. I guess I would have to actually serve time there to make a proper judgment on that, but I would be on my best behavior if I went to Mexico.

The new Hannah Montana movie is the top movie in America right now. Lots of Hannah Montana fans filled the theaters this past weekend to see the show open up. It seems lots like the new movie and it may just stay at number 1 for this weekend too. Not really any big blockbuster movies coming out this weekend, so it looks like Miley Cyrus will be safe as the top movie in America for 1 more week.

I think on May 8th things could change. The new Star Trek movie is going to be huge and this is a Hollywood blockbuster. If Hannah Montana is still number 1 before this movie debuts, we may be looking at the movie that knocks her off the top spot. There are tons of Star Trek fans out there and I know many will want to show up on the first night to see this new movie. We may even see some loyal fans camping out to get Star Trek movie tickets for this one. I do think Star Trek will be number 1 after the May 8th weekend and the only other movie that could prevent this is Hannah Montana.

It’s a good time to go see movies right now and there are great movies for the kids and adults both. I’m sure the parents in May can drop the kids off for a Hannah showing; while the adults go see the Star Trek movie. Which movie would you like to see most?

The new show Harper’s Island is off and running. It was a pretty good show for their debut last Thursday. There is a lot of characters in the show right now, so hard to keep up with who is who. This will be changing soon as new murders start taking place on this Seattle Island. I think we will know the characters much better in a few weeks; when there are less people on this new show from CBS.

I think the opening scene was pretty dramatic. A guy was tied to the bottom of the boat that was headed for Harper’s Island. His body was near the blades on the boat motor and everyone was having a good time and enjoying their self on top of the boat. When the boat did eventually pull away, the person tied to the underneath part of the boat got chopped up. We got to see the ocean fill with red (from the blood) that was created by the motor chopping up this man.

The show did a great job on relaxing its horror for the next 50 minutes or so before someone else died at the end. I was thinking the 2nd character that got murdered might have been the killer. He also had the looks of someone that would have played in more episodes of this new show. It was a shock to see this man get killed off and I think this is just the start of the teasing process; we will all have to endure until we find out who the real killer is.

The 2nd person to lose his life was walking an old wooden bridge. He fell through half way and then someone started chopping his body in half. The man did have a gun and fired a few shots through the wooden bridge hoping to hit the person or thing causing him pain from below. Eventually the man lost conscious and then when the camera panned back and showed us the under-side of the bridge, we could see the man was chopped in half.

The fun has just started on Harper’s Island and if you missed the first show, you’re not too far behind. Still lots of shows ahead to start watching this new show and I plan to watch them all. I look forward to seeing what the 2nd episode has in store for us.

I have a 1998 Buick Regal and I need a new super charger for it. Not having the super charger is causing me less horsepower and it’s also caused my belts to get loose. I will eventually need to get a new “tensioner” and two fan belts. The motor operates on a two fan belt system and replacing both belts would be a good idea, before I get stranded some where on the road.

I know BuyAutoParts always has a good deal on car parts. I’m not sure if they carry super chargers there, but I will have to search through all the auto parts they do have available. I like the fact they offer a full warranty on all the parts you buy from them. The boys of summer are now swinging away and those first pitches are still being thrown out at Major League baseball parks across the country this week. The first game of the season was on ESPN Sunday Night and everyone got to see the Atlanta Braves destroy the Philadelphia Phillies on a National Stage. The Philly baseball team may have been world champs last year, but this year is a new season and it looks like the Phillies season is over before it even starts.

Who will be the team representing the National League this year in the World Series? I think the Atlanta Braves would be a safe guess at this point in the season and they are looking like Major League Baseball’s best team right now. I know the New York Yankees spent a lot of money, but with all of that off-season spending, they still manage to lose their first game of the year to the Baltimore Orioles. Is it possible that Baltimore and Atlanta will meet up in the World Series this year? I think a Braves and Orioles World Series would be great in 2009.

Are you glad to see baseball back? Which team do you root for each evening after you get off of work? Some teams haven’t played a home game yet in their own ballpark, so home openers are still going on this week. Make sure you are keeping those fantasy baseball teams up-to-date and you get off to a good start in your fantasy baseball leagues. I’m glad we get to see baseball again and it’s fun having a sporting event to watch every night of the week; since baseball teams play just about every day in the Majors. Feel free to go ahead and make your World Series predictions for this year’s championship team in Major League Baseball. Play Ball!

One of the top states in the United States is New York without a doubt. In New York City they have the motto “the city that never sleeps” and I think that is about right for this large and vibrant city. In upstate New York you will find it much like any other state and there is farming, large fields, and mountains everywhere. It’s nothing like that in the southern portion of New York near the city. The city is full of life and that life has to keep going, because New York is the major hub for all business activities in the U.S..

That means that New York Plumbing can’t break down and it must go on. I’m sure the plumbers in NY stay very busy and it’s important they keep everything going for the millions that live there and the millions that visit each year. If the plumbing breaks down and no one can get drinking water, take showers, or use the toilet facilities; then this can cause a lot of problems. I’m sure the plumbers in New York City and those in the surrounding Burroughs stay very busy and I bet each plumber could tell a good story about the feisty residents of New York. I imagine they would be a few stars or famous people that we all know; where the average “Joe” was fixing their plumbing. I salute the plumbers in New York and they do deserve a pat on the back for keeping our country going financially and taking care of all the residents living in the Big Apple!

The new TV show from CBS will make its debut tonight. The new show is called Harpers Island and everyone will want to be sure to watch the first episode. Anyone that believes they have a detective mind or above average skills for a detective will want to see if they can determine who the killer is in this new television show. Each week someone will die and it’s up to the television audience to determine who the guilty person is. I hope we can figure out who the murderer is on this Seattle Island, before the TV show reveals the true killer on July 2nd.

Make sure you don’t forget to tune in and see if you can solve the mystery on Harpers Island.
