We have seen a huge increase in user generated media on the internet today. The television shows that have made reality tv shows popular is the same thing driving more people to upload videos online. Instead of seeing someone famous and that we all know, we now can watch the neighbor down the street dancing, singing, or just watching one of their home movies. It’s interesting to sit back and see some of the things that people upload these days online. I am amazed at some of the things that people don’t care to show the world, but it can be very entertaining as well. The most popular of all user generated media comes from YouTube. They are the ones that perfected the use of videos online and so many others have followed in their footsteps. The above video is from MySpace and most videos you see online today will come from YouTube or MySpace. I’m sure most of you have seen a YouTube video before, so I will show you some examples of other sources available for user generated media.

Does any of the videos above stick out? Which video do you like the best? Some of these videos you can edit and have the screen size smaller or larger and you can also touch some of them up and have the video playing as soon as someone visits your page. As you can see I chose Friday the 13th as a theme for my video samples. The new movie is coming out February 13th; which is on a Friday. I’m sure Jason will be just as popular as ever, much like these user generated videos that get millions of views daily. I used Hollywood footage for most of these example videos, but you can see a couple that isn’t Hollywood and the amateur touch on them.

I really think YouTube has done a wonderful job at creating a platform for others to follow that make these videos easy to watch. You can play these videos from my blog at their normal size or you can play the videos in full screen mode. I usually keep the video picture small while I am searching for a video, but once I do find the video I want to see, I will watch it full screen and it’s just like watching television.

The videos have been popular with the youth and teens in school for a variety of things. The adults love them just as much too and a lot of good information can be found on user generated videos. Finding information online has always required reading and usually lots of it. Now people that don’t like to read so much, can just watch videos online to see the information or entertainment they were looking for.

I think all of the above video companies have a great product. The library of videos is limited with some of these video places and some of them will use videos from YouTube on their sites. There really is no limits to the way people can use videos online to relay or show information to one another. I see young kids having their own web shows or V Logs, hunters can watch big deer being shot from tv shows or actual home footage that people have and these videos are a great source for music and seeing those old videos from the 80′s. Instead of reading about a recipe online, go watch a Youtube or My Space video on someone actually preparing a recipe. User generated media is going to make all of our lives easier and certainly more entertaining. What type of videos do you like watching the most? Where do you go to watch most of the videos you see playing online?

Daily Motion, Vimeo, Veoh, Viddler, Metacafe, Blip.tv, and Spike are some new places you can select for viewing videos online. You may find one or two of these video companies is better than MySpace or YouTube. Enjoy watching your videos on the computer and this gives us all something to do; while we wait for the New Jason Movie to hit theaters on Friday the 13th in Februray!
