If you could own any animal in the world; which one would you pick? I know it would be tough to just choose one animal that you would like to have. Surely there is just one animal you don’t ever see your self owning and now you have the chance to own it. Pick only one animal for the one you would most like to have or own one day.

My choice would be the white tiger. I love tigers in general, but really love the more rare tigers that have the white coat with black markings. One with great, big blue eyes would be a nice touch. I like the Alaskan Malamutes or Siberian Huskies that have the pretty blue eyes and I would want those eyes on my white tiger.

I would not want to get one that was fully grown. I would prefer a white tiger cub, so I could raise it and get it use to me well. I believe raising any wild animal from a baby to an adult will treat their owners good for the most part. The wild animals that normally attack their trainers or owners are the ones that got mistreated at some point in their lives.

Do you think you would like to own a white tiger too? If I won the lottery or came into some big unforeseen wealth, I would like to have a nice sports car with a white tiger cub I would let ride with me. I believe these are beautiful animals and would look good in a nice, brand new sports car. At home my white tiger would be free to run around in my huge mansion. I would probably turn 75% of my basement into a play area for my white tiger. So he or she would have plenty of space to roam and play around in. Yes, I believe if I could have any animal in the world, I would choose to own a white tiger.

What if you were given the choice to own any animal in the world? Do you think you would want to pick a tiger or even one of the more rare white tigers? Or do you prefer a much more tame animal and one that would be easier to keep up with? Please let me know which animal would rank highest on your list of animals you would like to own. It doesn’t have to be an exotic or hard-to-find animal. Maybe you like the blue eyes of a Siberian Husky or Timber wolf and would want to own a dog-like animal with blue eyes? Just reply back with your choice for the animal you would like to own the most.

I remember as a kid running through the yard and catching lightning bugs left and right. It’s one of the best childhood memories I ever had. I would catch them all evening long and put them in a jar. You know the jars with lids and we had to punch holes in it, so the lightning bugs could breathe. I’m not sure exactly when it started, but at some point the lightning bugs was disappearing. It wasn’t from me catching them all, because in my youth they were tons to be found. No way one little boy like me could catch them all.

As I started learning and hearing more about global warming or climate change, I began to put two and two together. I was thinking global warming had something to do with the lightning bugs vanishing. Also, my hometown in North Georgia was growing by the minute, so I figured that had something to do with it too. We had much more light pollution in my area and figured the lightning bugs liked dark places, so they could show off their shinny hide ends. It was a sad sight to see only a few lightning bugs or fireflies in my yard. No more hundreds and hundreds of yellow glowing lights in the yard. Only a small flicker here and there.

Well the global warming has only got worse and my city has grown like never before. It would seem the lightning bugs would vanish for good and not much hope to see even a couple each evening. Well something happened and I’m not sure what, but the lightning bugs have returned! It’s been well over 10 years, since I have seen this many lightning bugs glowing through out the yard. I mean it’s an incredible sight to see! I have no explanation or theory to why they left or why they decided to come back. It’s a mystery to me. I have kept pretty close track of this over the years and somewhere the little guys got an explosion of growth, because you could not walk in my yard without running into one now. I can’t wait for the sun to go down today, so I can gaze at them once again in the huge numbers they once again have in my neighborhood.

What animal would be the cheapest investment for a farmer; while giving the farmer a chance to benefit with quick rewards? I’m not sure if farmers think this way about their animals. For their crops this is very true. A farmer doesn’t care what they grow, the easier to maintain and harvest would be a factor, but money is generally the winner. You would think the system would fail over time and certain food items wouldn’t be grown anymore. Only thing I can think of now that isn’t grown in America anymore is the trans gram fats. It’s become a banned food in the U.S. and this means no one will ever get to eat a really good piece of fried chicken or remember just how good our potato chips use to be.

I guess the farmer’s system for growing crops is controlled by the supply and demand thing we have heard about many times from the business world. If corn pays the most, all farmers start growing corn, and pretty soon the supply is much greater than the demand. This farming practice would cause the price of corn to drop and the other foods would begin to pass corn, since no one was growing them and now the demand is real high. Growing crops on the farm is a big guessing game for these farmers. In most cases, they have been doing this their whole life and probably their dads, grandpas, and other generations were doing it before they were.

If there is an animal that’s more idea for raising during economical down turns, the supply and demand would kick in there too. Nobody can afford steaks and hamburgers, so we all eat chicken because it’s cheap. Now the consumers are to blame and not the farmers. They have ate up all the cheap chicken and what little chicken is left to be sold, has a higher price than read meat now. During this time, the beef industry kept bringing their product to the warehouses and storage areas and they have no more room to store their ground beef or T bone steaks. Instead of taking a total loss, they price it real cheap and now we can all eat a 12 oz NY Strip for a cheaper price than the 2 piece chicken dinner; the fast food restaurants are serving up.

Be sure to keep the farmer in mind for those that think America is broke, living on hard times, and the collapse of our society is just around the corner. We have a built-in system that will keep us from totally failing. Times may get hard and we may lose our way of living as we know it now. But due to the fact of supply and demand and the desire for people to do whatever it takes to become rich, we will always have a ear of corn and a chicken or a cow to eat. Farmers have spent generations watching these supplies and demands jump and now that it’s worked its way into our daily lives, we start forecasting the collapse of our country. You can run out if you want and yell to the top of your lungs “the sky is falling, the sky is falling“, but while you’re doing that, I will be finding a really good bargain somewhere.

When it comes to pets inside the house, I’m not really fond of the idea. I love pets as much as the next person, but I do believe they belong outside. Dogs and cats both adjust to weather changes well. Their fur grows long and thick in the winter time and it sheds during the hot months of summer. Mother Nature does a good job taking care of her animals, but some people believe their dogs and cats need those air condition rooms and the warm indoors on cold days. It’s just a “pet peeve” (pun intended) of mine not to keep animals like dogs and cats inside the house.

Pet owners don’t agree with me and they believe man’s best friend, also deserves man’s best home. I just see dogs as messy and you have to clean up after them, but long time pet owners know how to clean up after their pets. In some cases, you can’t even tell a dog shares the inside of the home with their masters. People that keep dogs inside their home will buy these Dog Waste Bags by the hundreds and it’s made clean up simple for them. Cat owners use these “trash bags” that were designed for pets too, but the cats leave hair behind. Normally you can tell when a cat lives inside a person’s home, but it is different for dogs. Anyone that has ever kept a cat indoors before, know all about the cat hairs and the places they wind up. I have seen cat hairs in computer keyboards before and that’s one of the last places, you would expect to find cat hairs.

Owning a pet in general takes a lot of responsibility. Just because you keep the dog and cat outdoors, doesn’t mean you don’t need the Pet Waste Bags. These bags work well with disposing of waste they leave outdoors too. If you don’t keep your lawns cleaned up, you’re just begging to step on their “poop“ one day and tracking it indoors. The bags were probably designed for kitty liter boxes and for areas that your canines use inside the house, but I think they can have an outdoor purpose too.

Don’t forget about the kids! A lot of families probably got a pet in the first place, because one of their young children begged and cried for a new pet. Make sure they learn that pets are not all fun and games. A pet is a good way to start teaching your child responsibility in life. Make them the crew chief on the clean-up crew; when it comes to finding and removing your pet’s waste. I don’t know of too many pet tips I can give to pet owners, but letting the children feed, water, and taking care of the pet duties; is a good lesson in responsibility. Teaching them these skills now will go a long ways; for when they become adults at 14, 15, or 16 years old? You know, that age when they know everything and don’t need Mom and Dad no more.

The Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs

It’s an historic event each year as the best breeders and horses line up for the Kentucky Derby. It’s been called the most exciting 2 minutes in sports and if you ever seen the Kentucky Derby before, you know why. This is a legendary race that takes place in the state of Kentucky each year. Kentucky is known for having the best horses in the world and this is the day they get to prove that. Horse owners from all over the country and in other countries too, always hope to get a chance to have their horse in the Kentucky Derby. This isn’t an easy event to see live and in person. You usually need a good contact to land a ticket for the Kentucky Derby. I have seen Churchill Downs Tickets selling online and if you want to go this year, you better hurry up and snatch a ticket now. The tickets online sell very fast, due to the popularity of the Kentucky Derby. This year’s Kentucky Derby will take place on Saturday, May 1st, 2010. You can’t wait until April to buy your tickets. If you want to see the best horses in the world race and compete against each other, then you will need to buy your 2010 Kentucky Derby tickets now!

Churchill Downs is the historic venue that this annual event takes place in each spring. I watch it on TV every year and you always see a lot of famous athletes and Hollywood stars making the trip to Kentucky to watch this huge horse race. I never have any luck in picking the winner. It seems the favorite never wins, so don’t pick the favorite, if you plan to try and pick a winner this year. I don’t think the field is set yet, so not sure which horses will make up the field for the 2010 Kentucky Derby.

If you can’t find a ticket or make the trip to Kentucky; then you will have to watch it on television like me. Using your computer to find tickets for the Kentucky Derby is the best way to go. I usually use the Internet to buy all of my tickets for sporting events, concerts, and other things I want to attend in person. Someone looking for Michael Buble Tickets or Honda Center Tickets can use their computers to track down different places online that sells tickets. The earlier you start your search for an event, the easier it is to usually find. Anyone willing to pay top dollar can always find a ticket online. If you want to save money, try conducting your search as soon as the tickets go on sale for the event. An event like the Kentucky Derby is right up there with the Super Bowl from the NFL. Anyone that wants to see the Super Bowl or Kentucky Derby will want to come online and search for these hard to get tickets.

The camel is an amazing animal. One that needs very little water to travel great distances across some of the most baron deserts on the planet. There are 4 major types of deserts located on Earth. We typically think of a desert as being a place that is very hot with very little rain each year. This is known as the hot and dry desert and it’s only one of the types of deserts in the world. The other 3 deserts are referred to as the semiarid desert, the coastal desert, and the cold desert. During the nights a desert can become very cold. The warm air quickly escapes from the daytime heating of the desert after the sun has went down. You may notice this in a lot of western movies that come on TV; where the people in them will be wearing long sleeve shirts. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to wear these long sleeve shirts in a desert that is hot and dry, but at night time you need a long sleeve shirt to stay warm.

The camel has the unique ability to store large amounts of water. You can probably guess where that water is stored at on the camel. If you’re thinking the hump, that’s located on the back of camels, then you would be correct. A camel can have 1 or 2 humps on their back and they work well for storing water. A camel is much more equipped for the desert-life, than a human being is for life on the open deserts of the world.

I have never been to a desert before. I think it would be a great experience and something I would remember for a long time. I hope to get a chance one day to visit the deserts in Arizona and Southern California. We don’t see camels in the South Western part of the United States and I’m not sure why. Perhaps it’s because these are newer deserts and not the typical climates most camels are made for like the deserts that are located in Africa and the Middle East. A camel is a tall animal and work great with humans. A good animal to assist humans in traveling across the deserts. A camel doesn’t move like a horse in terms of speed, but people living in deserts use camels much like we would use a donkey here in the United States. The camel is a popular trademark for a cigarette brand and others have used the camel to promote their products. It’s a lovable animal and especially for those that need the camel to survive life in the deserts.

In my state of Georgia we have been having a pretty cold winter this year. That got me to thinking about the honeybees in my area. I use to own and raise honey bees and I know they have to do a good job in the fall, so they can survive the winters. Normally our winters in North Georgia isn’t that bad. It’s been different this year and we are actually seeing snow this year. We went through one period already when temperatures stayed below freezing for 15 straight days. That is very unusual for us and I wonder how the honeybees did during this cold spell. We have had 2 snow storms that has left the ground white and the snow stuck around for a couple of days. They are now forecasting snow for Valentines Day night and we still have a little snow left from Friday’s snow event.

All of these cold temperatures and snow hanging around for days is probably going to diminish a lot of the honey bee population in Georgia. I would imagine most hives will have enough honey and food to survive, but they are probably losing a lot more worker bees than normal. When the weather does warm back up, I don’t know if there will be enough worker bees left to bring in the first food of the spring season. The hives that do survive the winter this year, may live long enough to just die in early spring. It should be interesting to see how many honey bees take flight in the Georgia skies this spring.

A long tradition in the United States when it comes to groundhogs and the weather. We Americans like to know our weather forecasts and for decades now we have been turning to our groundhogs for that information. The groundhogs come out each year on February 2nd to make their predictions. It’s a simple process, but one that proves to work most years. If a groundhog sees his shadow on this special day in February, then that is bad news. A groundhog seeing his shadow means another 6 weeks of winter is ahead. The good news is if he doesn’t see a shadow, then we can expect spring to be arriving shortly. Yesterday in Georgia, the General Lee Groundhog did not see his shadow, so this means Georgia can start preparing for much warmer conditions that will be coming soon.

Most of the groundhogs did not see their shadow on Groundhog Day. There was one groundhog in Pennsylvania that did see his shadow, but this goes against all the other groundhogs in the United States, so he is obviously off with his prediction for the folks living in Pennsylvania. The General Lee in Georgia is the most trusted groundhog in the country, so we always pay close attention to his predictions and if he says that spring is on the way, then I believe him. Groundhog Day is now over and we will get to see the General Lee and other groundhogs come out next year on February 2nd, 2011 to give us another traditional weather forecast.

I was watching some animal rescues on the Animal Planet channel and seen some people going to great lengths to save some animals in trouble. I’m not sure how far a human being should go and risk their own lives for an animal’s life. I guess some people really love animals or just want to be heros and save these animals that need our help.

In most cases these rescues are due to man’s doings. It’s not often that animals get trapped in nature or in their own natural environments. There is usually a man-made element that causes these animals to get trapped in the first place. I guess you could make the case that we put these animals in danger and it’s only right that we do whatever it takes to see they are returned to their safe and natural environments. I’m sure some animal rescues don’t happen, due to the cost in terms of money. It is nice to see the animal rescues that take place on the Animal Planet and know that some animals do get help from humans.

What’s the longest your dog has ever live to be? It’s sad when the family pet dies and often it’s much sooner that we expected to see them go. A dog name Otto is making headlines now and he’s manage to dodge the Grim Reaper to this point and is almost 21 years old! This isn’t in dog years either. We think of dog years as every 7 years, so a dog 21 in dog years would only be 3 years old in human years. Otto is almost 21 years old in human years and would be about 145 years old in dog years. It would be nice if all of our dogs could live that long. Often we get our young kids a puppy to grow up with them, but usually in their preteen to teen years it passes away. Even for a child in their teenage years; it’s tough to lose a dog you have grew up with or known for so many years. Otto is the exception to the rule and I’m sure pet lovers every where would like to know the diet and how many check-ups he has had with the doc. As far as we can tell it would appear that Otto is currently the world’s oldest dog in the world. How old is your dogs? Do you have one that is 15 years or older? 20 years? I’m not sure when Otto’s birthday is, but it would appear that he’s well on his way to 21 years old. Happy Birthday Otto!
