Do you remember your combination to your School Locker? If you are still in high school or graduated recently; then you may remember your old locker combination and perhaps you still have the combination lock too. It’s been a long time since my high school days, but I didn’t use my locker much. I didn’t have enough time in between classes to unlock a lock, get my things out, and get to my next class in time. I would carry all of my books in large bag and sometimes I would put 1 or 2 books in my school Locker. If you use a locker and don’t put a combination lock on it, then you do run the risk of having items to go missing from your lockers at school.

Students these days are carrying some pretty valuable things to school and it’s a must for them to use their regular lockers or the Gym Lockers. The high tech items like cell phones, laptop computers, blackberries, or a digital calculator is something a student would want to put in a secured location. Most of the time this would be their metal or Wood Lockers that are assigned to them each year at school. Normally these lockers don’t have any security protection. If a student wants a secured locker, it’s up to them to buy a lock with a key or the more common combination locks. It’s hard to keep up with a key and the combination locks can be tricky to open at times. There was always one student around that was good at opening the combination locks and they would have to teach others how to turn the dial on these locks. I don’t miss these days of trying to keep my things locked up at school, but you were just asking for it if you didn’t lock up your stuff.

They are some kids and mostly at the middle and high school levels that are looking to steal another student’s things. It’s an early lesson for the younger generation at how they have to protect what they own. I would like to see the locker companies come up with a better security system, for their premade lockers they send out to the schools. I think schools would buy a more modern design in lockers with security being the focus. A lot of schools would have Lockers for sale, if a more secured locker was invented, because they would want to replace their existing lockers with the more secured ones. A locker that had a digital keypad on it and students could use a 4 digit code to access their lockers, would be much better than the locker systems that are in place now. It might be a bit more expensive for the schools to upgrade their lockers, but it doesn’t take too many cell phones and laptops to get stolen, to make up for the higher costs.

Taking a drive through a rich neighborhood or seeing how the other half lives can be fun. I like to see all the fancy houses and those big mansions that sit high on the hill. I often wonder what these people do for a living to have such nice houses. You can take a look at the end of the driveway and see some of these personal, household mailboxes that look more like Commercial Mailboxes you would find in an office park or for a Fortune 500 Company. I think you can tell a lot about a family by looking at their mailbox. No, I don’t mean by stealing their mail, just by looking at the outside of the mailbox!

There isn’t a lot of rich folks in my neighborhood or on my side of town. The people that do have steady jobs and are doing better than most in my area, do have an upscale mailbox. It may not be quite as fancy of some of the ones you can find in the real rich neighborhoods, but it’s an upgrade from your average-looking mailbox. I do see a connection with wealth and the types of mail boxes people choose to put up at the end of their driveways or out in the front yard.

Have you ever seen the mailboxes that are attached to the home? I think this was more common in the past; where people would hang their mailboxes from the home. People living in large cities or close to downtown areas don’t normally have much room to put up their mailboxes and some of these residents still have the mailbox that is attached to the house. The Residential Mailboxes that people do have on an outside wall or nailed to a post on the porch, usually get their mail from postal workers that walk around; instead of driving. In my downtown area I see these men and women that carry their mail bags and deliver their routes on foot. I know these people have to be in shape and they get to walk a lot each day.

Mailboxes come in all shapes and sizes these days. People do have a lot more choices now; when it comes to buying a new mail box. My family hasn’t bought a new mailbox in a long time. We are probably due for a new one. I was looking online at Mailboxixchange.com and saw they had a lot to choose from. Rich people or poor people will have no problems here with the 2500+ mailboxes and curbside decor products they offer. It seems most of their products have that “upscale look” to them, so if you buy one here, people are going to think you’re rich. Or perhaps it’s just me that associates nice mailboxes with how much a family earns. You may be laughing at me, but just keep an eye out on the mailboxes and see if you can see what I’m talking about. I have wondered for years and years what the first thing I should buy; if I ever was to win the lottery. Now I know! I will have to buy a huge, nice looking mailbox, that will be the top box in the neighborhood!

Do they have trade shows for gold sellers? I have seen the gun shows and coin collectors gather at events, but never seen one just for gold collectors and investors. The gold markets are off the charts right now and some think gold might go to 2000 dollars an ounce by this time next year! If no one is doing it now, it would be the perfect time to start an event or trade show that was only for people with gold. The trade show booths would have lines out the door if people were selling their gold right now.

I have took my baseball card collections to flea markets and places like that to sell. People have a strong desire to buy something that will increase in value over time. Everybody wants to buy something for dirt cheap and watch it grow into a priceless item one day. Old coins and baseball cards meet this criteria and have shown to be popular in most areas of the country. Now just think about doing a trade show where gold sellers gathered together with people looking to buy more gold. I believe the demand would be high; since gold is so popular right now.

In order to do a good trade show we would need a few things. A big building would be the first and hardest thing to get. Once you had that in place, everything would be easy to set up for a gold trade show. A Pipe and Drape that sellers could use would help make the event look more professional. The sellers could use these pipe and drape setups to help divide them from other sellers in the room. They are also a great way to control the crowd and a gold show would certainly bring in a big crowd right now. The banner stands could be use to help maximize the space inside the building. Their ability to fold-up would be helpful and they’re easy to move around and set up. Companies could use these banner stands to promote products other than gold or some of the really big sellers might want to use a banner stand to help point customers to their trade booths. It would take some work and a lot of advertising, but I think a big gold show is just on the horizon, with the way gold prices are soaring right now.

According to a story on the front page of Yahoo’s website, it states that more than 1 billion people in the world right now are going hungry. Can this be right? How is this possible? These numbers sure don’t add up and why do we have so many people going hungry? Last I heard there was 7 billion people in the world and this would mean that 1 out of every 7 people on our planet is hungry right now. If you figure the average household has 4 people in it; then every 2 households would be about 7 people and this means 1 person in each two households in the world, someone is hungry in that house. I’m sure some are not actually hungry, because you get sick after awhile of not eating anything, but this still means they are malnutrition.

I guess it really depends on where you live in the world. I can certainly speak for the people in the United States and we don’t have 1 out of every 7 people going hungry in this country. We do have homeless people in our major cities here and we have those that live in poor living conditions and I’m sure these folks go hungry on many of  nights. I guess to a small degree we do have our hunger issues in this country, but it’s the homeless people that need to be put at the top of the list in our country. My heart goes out to these people and I do wish there was more I could do and we as a nation could do for the homeless. Nobody deserves not to have a home. I know some people are mean and probably made the choices in life that left them homeless today. I imagine that a lot of thieves, low lifes, and foul mouthed people make up some of the homeless population and most are not willing to help these kinds of people. The homeless that uses drugs and when they do find a helping hand they just go buy more drugs with it; then that too dampens the spirits of most Americans that would want to help or could help. However, let’s ask ourselves this question as a high, civilized nation living in the 21st century. Is there anyone that is homeless in America right now that would take full advantage of a helping hand in the form of food, a job, a place to live and after receiving these types of gifts, would they continue to hold on to them and be a productive member of our society? If anyone answers “yes” to that question, then we need to focus on ways of finding these folks and pulling them out of the rubble they live under each day.

I don’t have the answers to feeding the 1 billion people that are starving right now. I do have food in the refrigerator and cabinets to feed 1 or 2 of these people and could provide them with a meal for a day. I don’t have the answers to solving America’s homeless problem, but I do see where the focus needs to take place. We need some type of panel that would bring the homeless people off of our streets and in to a building where we can record their names, the goals, and if they want to have a better life or not. For each one the panel believes is willing to become a productive member of society again or just for the first time; then they would be giving a “college like dorm” to live in. From here we could monitor these folks as we gave them food, shelter, and the opportunity to fill a role in life. Some homeless people may have a direction they would want to take with a job or career and we could provide him/her with the tools to succeed. For those that didn’t have any direction, we could give them a list of jobs/roles that needed filled in the community and then provide them with the tools to succeed.

So where do we get the money? People? Housing? To start programs like this? I believe we take care of our own and this should fall in the lap of everyone. The United States of America does have homeless people living in their country. I think a small amount of funds should be made available at the national level. We have homeless people living in my state of Georgia. The State should provide a small amount of funds to the residents in Georgia. I know there are homeless people living in Fulton County. The county should provide a small amount of funds for the people living in Fulton County. There are homeless people in the streets of Atlanta. I think the City of Atlanta should provide a small amount of funds to the people of Atlanta. From there we get into the neighborhoods and people living in an Atlanta neighborhood should get together and help their neighbors out and especially the ones that don’t have a home. Once you get all of this money from various places, it just becomes a matter of turning it into a business that is profitable to the people that run it. I will run a shelter for the homeless and monitor them and record their names and goals in life. I will find the people that want to make a change in life that are currently homeless now and I’m sure there are others willing to help too.

We aren’t wasting the money when a homeless person takes our handouts and still wants to remain a bum. These are human beings and any of us could wake up homeless tomorrow. If we do wake up tomorrow with a home to live in and food on the table; then we should do more to help others have the same luxuries as we do tomorrow. If we don’t start getting these homeless off the streets now, it’s just going to continue to get worse and soon we will all be homeless and there won’t be anyone left to help. Yes, let’s take care of our own and it begins in the neighborhoods and cities in our country.

Halloween is about a month away and that means it’s time for dressing up in costumes and stocking up on the candy for the kids. I always loved Halloween as a kid and now enjoy all the scary movies that come on during the Halloween season. There were certain types of candy that I like getting better than others. A nice tootsie roll, jolly rancher, or any candy bar was a welcomed treat as a trick or treater. I wasn’t a big fan of the apples some people tried to hand out each year at Halloween. I know when me and my friends were trick or treating into our teen years, we would just use the apples to throw back at the houses they gave them to us. So even though you would like to see our youth eating better these days, Halloween is not the time to spread your message. The kids want candy and this is something every homeowner should buy for the kids on Halloween night.

What was your favorite treat as a child trick or treating? Did you have a certain candy that you like to see people handing out each year? Please let me know some of the treats you got on October 31st that made you smile. I know Halloween is still a long ways away, but I have seen one Halloween commercial already. It was the one for Reeses Peanut Butter Cups and it’s the one where the lights are flashing and you get a quick glimpse of a buttercup that’s been made into a jack-o-lantern. You only see it for a second and it’s a scary jack-o-lantern, but it’s a sign that Halloween will be here before you know it.

I look forward to watching the scary movies that will come on this year. All of the Halloween movies with Michael Myers are great and these movies will still be popular 50 years from now. The Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th movies are good too and you will see some of them on TV this Halloween. For those of you that have the Movie Channel on your cable or satellite subscriptions can see horror movies every Saturday night. The Movie Channel has a thing called Splatter Day on Saturday and they feature 2 horror movies every Saturday night. I have Dishnetwork and you can find The Movie Channel on channels 329 and 330. Check out these two channels on Dish Network for the Splatter Day on Saturday movies. I have two movies recorded on the DVR from last Saturday’s double feature from the Movie Channel and I will probably watch them tonight. I don’t watch horror movies in the daytime, it must be night time for me to see a horror movie. It spoils all the fun watching horror movies during the day. Although the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a good horror movie that started it’s killing during the daylight hours; you typically see horror movies doing all of their action during the night time.

I am a collector of many things and I have no general area I stay focused on. Antiques or baseball cards have always been something I like to buy in the hopes they will increase in value over time. The same can be said for the guy on Wall Street too and stock brokers hope to purchase company stocks that will increase over time. Lots of industries seem to have drastic up and down trends and not many out there stay in an upward trend for long. Today we are seeing gold as a solid investment and one that does hold it’s value over time. Several ways to go about buying gold, but gold jewelry may just be the best way to go.

Estate jewelry is a wise investment and it’s more than just gold or silver value it holds. The design and age of the jewelry can add additional value to a piece of jewelry and this can be worth a lot more than just the gold or silver it may contain. Antique vintage jewelry is something collectors can buy online or in a jewelry store or pawn shop in their hometown. You can sometimes find great deals on estate jewelry at the flea markets or people wanting to sell an old wedding ring from a marriage gone bad. It’s hard to determine which sector will be hot for collectors in the future, but gold and vintage jewelry seem like the safest investments for now. Do a little research on estate jewelry and you may just choose to invest your dollars here; rather than gambling in the uncertain stock market.

I’m sure many of you remember or know who Charles Manson is. He’s not famous for racking up a bunch of kills like some serial killers have did over the years. In fact, the term “serial killers” didn’t exist during the days when Charles Manson was a free man. That term started in the early 1980’s and it was Ted Bundy that became the first serial killer. Manson was known as someone that could manipulate people and even enough to make them kill for him. He preached and sung about peace, love, and harmony, but his words led to people dying and good people turning bad when they was under the influence of Charlie.

He doesn’t look like the same man we know as Charles Manson or the guy from Helter Skelter today. He has changed quite a bit and he does seem like a harmless old man now. I’m sure Charlie won’t be seeing the outside of a California prison anytime soon. He will live his final days on this planet locked away from the public and he will never control anyone on the outside again. He may have some fame locked up and perhaps a few prisoners that admire him, but he’s not the same mind-controlling man we once knew, that is responsible for several people losing their life.

I know there are a lot of Oprah fans out there and many of us have seen the powers of her followers. I was just noticing the head of Harpo Productions (which is Oprah spelled backwards) is gaining a little weight these days. I know many of you have seen the Oprah shows about losing weight and how the most popular talk show host in the world has did a good job with it. Well that doesn’t seem to be the case lately and the world’s most watched talk show host is getting a little plump.

I don’t watch Oprah much and don’t know what is going on with her. She may have some health issues or perhaps she is pregnant? I would think her pregnancy would be major headlines and I haven’t heard anything about it. It there are no under lying health problems with Oprah Winfrey and if she isn’t pregnant; then she is certainly leaving the dinner table these days with a full tummy. I’m not trying to be mean or nothing, but just figured someone in her position would do a little more to control her weight gains.

The city of Chicago has two stars shinning a little light on their city these days. Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey are two Illinois residents that are proud to call the Chicago area home. The jury is still out on President Obama and how he will do as a U.S. President. Oprah has been doing many positive things for her state and the various charities she sponsors each year. She is on top of the world and no one ever knows how long that fame will last. If I was in her PR camp right now, I think I would suggest to her the extra weight she is carrying these days. Nothing wrong with being a little over weight, but Oprah isn’t a typical person and does need to set the bar high for her audience and the fans she has all over the world. Oprah is heavy right now based on the show I seen yesterday and it would do her some good to eat a little less and to jog a few laps around the city of Chicago.

How concerned are you about Swine Flu?

Is the new virus that is sweeping across the globe causing you and your family concern? It seemed to be a big problem at first and understandable so with all the deaths in Mexico. The virus doesn’t seem to be as deadly as first thought but anyone that has ever suffered from influenza know it’s still bad to have. Going to extremes to protect your self is really unnecessary or it would appear like that right now.

Only 1 case in the U.S. that was reported as a swine flu death; may not have been the cause as experts take a closer look; they may have been some underlying medical conditions that caused the death in Texas. Hundreds of other people are getting sick but they are getting better. It seems you go through 2 to 3 bad days of flu like symptoms and aching joints seem to be a popular symptom too. After this period of sickness; most seem to be getting better from the swine flu.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the least concern and 10 being the most concerned); what number do you attach to the swine flu? In terms of how scared you and your family might be from this new virus.

North Carolina Wins Miss America

The votes are in and counted and the winner is Miss North Carolina! The blond head beauty took center stage at the Miss American Pageant recently and beat out California and Arizona for the top prize. Kristen Dalton is the lucky winner and the one representing the state of North Carolina. All 50 states had a contestant in the beauty pageant and it was Kristen Dalton that beat out all the other states to be crowned the new Miss America.

There was some off stage debate in this year’s Miss America Pageant and most of it took place off stage. Apparently the contestant from California gave a reply to a question that received harshed views from the crowd. I don’t think she said anything wrong and everyone has the right to their own opinion. The person representing the state of California is only representing them in a beauty contest and her comments don’t reflect politics or the way other people from California feel. We must learn to let people have their own views and opinions and this is what makes this country great. We aren’t always going to agree with those that have a chance to share their opinions on a national stage. I think the contest should have not put the question up in the first place and it’s a question that most politicians stumble to find the right answers on. Miss California you did a great job answering the question and don’t let anyone make you feel any differently. I don’t think you owe an apology to anyone and only if you apologize for your comments will I have a negative view on you. I think you answered a tough question great and let the others shout and holler all they want for not understanding your situation.

The new Hannah Montana movie is the top movie in America right now. Lots of Hannah Montana fans filled the theaters this past weekend to see the show open up. It seems lots like the new movie and it may just stay at number 1 for this weekend too. Not really any big blockbuster movies coming out this weekend, so it looks like Miley Cyrus will be safe as the top movie in America for 1 more week.

I think on May 8th things could change. The new Star Trek movie is going to be huge and this is a Hollywood blockbuster. If Hannah Montana is still number 1 before this movie debuts, we may be looking at the movie that knocks her off the top spot. There are tons of Star Trek fans out there and I know many will want to show up on the first night to see this new movie. We may even see some loyal fans camping out to get Star Trek movie tickets for this one. I do think Star Trek will be number 1 after the May 8th weekend and the only other movie that could prevent this is Hannah Montana.

It’s a good time to go see movies right now and there are great movies for the kids and adults both. I’m sure the parents in May can drop the kids off for a Hannah showing; while the adults go see the Star Trek movie. Which movie would you like to see most?
