I love to go outside when the weather is warm and find a good running creek or stream that is full of gold and panning it out. Panning for gold is a lot of work and often you do more work than what you actually find in gold. I just think it’s a fun hobby that adults and kids both like and searching for gold is a great family activity. Anything that gets us closer to nature is something I like to do. Fishing and camping are high on my list of things to do, but I do have a craving for money and panning for gold certainly takes care of that craving. You would be surprised at all the gold that is still out there to find. It seems any stream, creek, or waterway in North Georgia is a place that gold can be found. The key is finding lots of gold and finding those golden nuggets is what makes a gold panning trip worth the hard work.

Have you ever found a big gold nugget before? I’m still searching for my nugget and I mostly just find gold dust or small flakes of gold. I just haven’t quite tapped into one of those gold veins yet, but I’m hoping my luck changes soon. I know the area north of Atlanta, Georgia is full of gold and this is my backyard. Several good places in the Southeastern USA are good for finding gold. There are great places on the west coast too and some think most of the U.S. gold is in places like Oregon, California, and Arizona. I would like to travel out west one day and look for gold there, but I’m in no hurry with all the good places in Georgia I haven’t gone to yet. I have heard some good stories about people finding gold in North Carolina too and this would be a much closer trip for me. You won’t get rich off panning for gold, but you will certainly get a workout from it. It really is fun to see that bright shinny gold in the pan, after you have worked out all the topsoil. Thar is gold up thar in those hills and I reckon I plan to get me some of that!
